The top three players are operating the “Smarter cities” called IBM, Cisco and Siemens. All the three companies focus on the same arena, with a slight difference in focus and nomenclature
- IBM calls it as "Smarter Cities" .They transforms the business processes through data analytics.
- Siemens call it as "Green Cities" and they focus more on sustainability using systems integration.
- Cisco calls it as "Smart + Connected Communities", targets the network and associated services.
By implementing these intelligent networks the city can become more efficient, effective, sustainable, livable, safe and etcetera .This consists of five different layers such as
- Hardware : the internet for pervasive sensing
- Hardware : interconnectivity of network and the cloud such as transport, safety & security
- Software : service orientated architecture
- Services: Mobilized user-centric services such as home/residential, fan, office, etcetera
- Services: collaboration & social cohesion
The smarter cities provides a total of $50 million worth of technology and services will be given to 100 municipalities worldwide over the next three years to help them become more vibrant and livable places for their citizens. This will help the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) implement its strategy for making the city’s streets safer in an innovative and data-based manner.
