On Friday 3rd April 2009, Minister for Roads Michael Daley handed Chairman of the McGrath Foundation and cricketing legend, Glenn McGrath, the state’s first hot pink number plates as part of a campaign to raise money for women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Glenn McGrath became the first person in NSW to fit customised hot pink plates to his vehicle today after his Foundation partnered with the RTA to create the new range.

"This is a great joint initiative that will make a real difference to women diagnosed with breast cancer with a portion of proceeds from the first six months of sales donated to the McGrath Foundation," Mr Daley said.

"The money raised will help fund the important work of McGrath Breast Care Nurses throughout NSW as well as increase breast awareness among young women.
Mr McGrath said he was thrilled to be the first motorist in NSW to fit his new pink number plates to his iconic Hummer.

"I congratulate the RTA for taking a positive step to raise breast awareness and for its support of the McGrath Foundation," Mr McGrath said.

"My licence plate identifies who I am, so I'm proud to have the hot pink plates on my Hummer - that way, there’s no question I support the McGrath Foundation and its aims.

"I'm hoping other people will also take the opportunity to invest in pink plates not only to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation but also as a continual reminder that all young women should be breast aware," he said.

Minister for Roads Michael Daley said the RTA will be donating $15 to the McGrath Foundation from each set of customised pink plates sold from 8th April until 31st October 2009.

"But for anyone who purchases a set of handmade hot pink prestige plates, the RTA will increase the donation to $50 per plate," Mr Daley said.

"This is an important cause so I'd encourage motorists to get onboard and personalise their vehicles with a touch of pink.

The McGrath Foundation was co-founded by Jane and Glenn McGrath after Jane's initial recovery from breast cancer. The McGrath Foundation aims to raise money to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in rural and regional Australia as well as educating young women to be 'breast aware'.
