On March 1 1962, American Airlines Flight 1 bearing the registration number N7506A took off from Idlewild airport on its way to Los Angeles. After sometime from its take off because of inappropriate maintenance of plane in-house wiring spoiled and the rudder failed leading to the dive of nose in Jamaica bay. All 95 people on board were killed in the incident. Some notable passengers killed were multi-millionaire oilman W. Alton Jones, Louise Lindner Eastman, retired Admiral Richard L. Conolly, president of Long Island University, two-time Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, film producer (The Guns of Navarone) Irving Rubine, and millionaire realtor Arnold Kirkeby. Unexpectedly the crash took place at the time when U.S. astronaut John H. Glenn, Jr was returning from his successful space flight to Mercury on Feb 20.

On February 3 1959, American Airlines Flight 320 was a Lockheed L-188A Electra on its route to New York City. It got crashed into East River when it moved down below the minimum levels. The aircraft was just brought in by American Airlines and it was the first crash of Electra. The CAB ancestors of NTSB said the cause of accident was flying below the proper altitude and minimum familiarity of crew about the aircraft. . Out of 73 passengers only 65 died and 8 people survived. One more crash happened on that day in which Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valens three good singers were killed at Clear Lake Iowa.

On January 25 1990, Avianca Flight 52 was on its regular schedule to New York. It had been holding over New York for more than an hour as fog has caused limited arrivals and departures and fuel was subsequently burning. They got encountered in a wind shear and the craft began to come down after that it could not attempt another landing as fuel was insufficient. No. 4 engine separated followed by other engines and it crashed at a village Cove Neck in northern Long Island, in Oyster Bay. Out of 158 people 73 were killed, 85 survived and they were injured. The crash happened at a small village and down the hill in night which made the delay in rescue work and after much effort injured were taken to hospitals.

On February 12 2009, Colgan Air Flight 3407 was on its daily route to New York from New Jersey, a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 as Flight 3407 took off from Newark and at 10:11 pm last communication was received. Because after that it crashed in to a house in the northeastern part of Buffalo, Clarence center. Before the crash on its landing process its autopilot was on and the de icing system was also turned on just few minutes before the crash as ice was there on wings and windscreen. As it was flying with autopilot on it rolled and pilot were trying to control it but that time autopilot separated. After struggling for about 25 seconds it crashed into a house killing 50 people including the occupant of the house. (SAME)

On June 24 1975, Eastern Air Lines Flight 66 was on its way and ready for landing at New York Kennedy when it got into a microburst or wind shear which was caused by heavy thunderstorms. The aircraft continuously felled down and came to rest after hitting the lights which was 2400 feet away from the entrance of runway 22L. Then it cached flames and debris spotted till the border of the airport. Out of 124 people 112 were killed at that time, 12 survived but suffered injuries and a person died after 9 days due to injuries. Among them American Basketball Association player Wendell Ladner was also killed. This led to application of low level wind shear alert system so that proper weather conditions can be known and incidents could be averted.

On November 30 1962, Eastern Air Lines Flight 512 was a DC-7B was flying to its destination New York City. It went for a turn around and crashed when it was not able to land at the Idlewild airport because of bad weather. There was heavy fog which led to no resemblance of runway and so the pilot was not able to locate the runway which resulted in crash of the aircraft. The cause was clearly the weather condition that is fog which led to the crash. In this 51 people were on board including both passengers and crew, of which 25 people were killed and others suffered serious injuries.

On Feb 8 1965, Eastern Air Lines Flight 663 which was DC-7B type was on its regular way to Richmond from New York City, it got crashed at Jones Beach State Park in New York at 6:30 pm. It got crashed when it was forced to escape from Pan Am Flight 212 which was coming nearer. 79 passengers and 5 crew members died in this incident. The craft lost its control when it was trying to avoid another aircraft.

On Feb. 1 1957, Northeast Airlines Flight 823 was on its regular route but got crashed after its take off from New York City. On Dec 16 1960, a collision occurred between United Airlines Flight 826 and Trans World Airlines Flight 266. The 1960 New York air disaster was the deadliest accident happened topping the mid air collision of 1956 as fatalities were 134 people. On September 11 2001 American Airlines Flight 11 got hijacked by five Islamic terrorist and intentionally it was crashed in to the North tower of the World Trade Centre in New York City. The hijack would have taken place at around 8:14 when the crew did not responded to Boston Air Traffic control messages of its deviation. The hijackers forcibly entered the cockpit and took control of the flight. It crashed in between the 92 and 99 floor of WTC. All 92 people on board were killed and more than 1300 people were also killed in this. It was one of the series of attacks that happened on 9/11. On February 12 2009, Colgan Air Flight 3407 was on its routine way to New York from New Jersey, after its departure from Newark Liberty International Airport at 9:20 p.m. the craft lost communication at 10:11p.m. and it got crashed in to a building at Clarence Center, NY. The weather conditions were light snowfall with wintry winds, two other aircrafts reported of icy conditions at that time. The de icing system was turned on to get assistance in landing and the flight was on autopilot mode. The plane rolled and loud noises were heard from the engines although the cause of the accident is under investigation and a specific statement has to be made. 50 people were killed including 45 passengers, 4 crew members and 1 person of the house. 4 people were also injured in this accident. On January 6 1960, National Airlines Flight 2511 bearing registration no. N8225H, which was a Douglas DC-6B, was called on for a short notice service, as flight 601 was beached down due to a splintered window. The plane was going on its routine path to Miami, Florida from Idle wild airport but blasted over Bolivia in North Carolina. All 34 people on board were killed. During the recovery process Julian A. Frank, a lawyer from New York City's body was missing and it was found at sixteen miles away from the wreckage. The detailed investigations revealed that the explosion caused severe injuries on him just as that the blast occurred on his laps or beneath his seat. He has bought large amount of insurance policies from airport and has been investigated for some frauds.

On July 2 1994, USAir Flight 1016 was on its routine schedule to Charlotte from Columbia, where on its final approach it got stuck in wind shear and lost its control. While approaching to land the aircraft got stuck in heavy thunderstorms and the flight officers were not able to handle the aircraft. It resulted in going beyond the runway and crashed in to the fence of airport breaking the plane into 4 parts. Out of 52 passengers and 5 crew members 37 were killed because of force or fire and 15 suffered injuries and totally 20 people survived in the crash. The reason for the crash that is stated by NTSB that the flight's crew incapacity to approach in heavy thunderstorm and lost control which would have enabled them to come out of thunderstorm. The air traffic control also failed to give information about the bad weather conditions.

Air Midwest Flight 5481 was on its regular way to Greer, South Carolina on January 8 2003 it got crashed just after 37 seconds after it took off from Charlotte airport. The cause behind the crash was earlier believed to be fuel cap crash but later it was found that there were two reasons of the crash. One was the poor servicing of the aircraft by the mechanic to whom this has been sent. He did not have proper knowledge of the aircraft and the elevator cables have been wrongly joined. Other reason was that the pilots inappropriate calculation of the passengers weight. The weight exceeded the maximum level of weight which also contributed in the crash of the flight.

In 2006 a memorial has been built at the Mott gym and a pillar stands for everyone who died and also on 29 September 2006, the 1960 football team was included into the Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Fame.

On December 28 1978, United Airlines Flight 173, which was a Douglas DC-8-61 got on its route got crashed while landing at Portland airport. On October 1 1966, West Coast Airlines Flight 956 got crashed at southern of Wemme, Oregon, United States, it crashed because it was flying below the minimum levels. This incident was the first loss/suffering for Douglas DC-9. The flight was given instructions to come down to 9,000 feet from 14,000 feet and to turn right after acknowledgement the flight disappeared from the radar. An F-106 plane from Washington and HU-16 from Portland were sent to search the missing plane, when the aircraft disappeared it was at 2900 feet with rainy conditions. The NTSB was not able to find any specific reasons for the crash. It got crashed as it was beneath the normal level and the rainy conditions added to it problems.

TWA Flight 513, bearing the registration NC86513, named as Star of Lisbon, which was a Lockheed Constellation type of aircraft operated by Transcontinental and Western Air. On September 8 1994 USAir Flight 427 was on its routine route to Pennsylvania from Chicago, it got crashed just at about 6,000 feet and 6 miles away from the runway. The crash occurred as a result of loss in control of the flight in Hopewell Township near Pennsylvania killing all 127 passengers plus 5 crew members. This incident took a longer time of investigation to find out the cause of its happening. It took nearly four and half years to state the reason of it which is sudden loss of control of flight led to crash of the flight. In future pilots were trained to handle the aircraft in difficult situation and four different additional information channels were introduced for more precise knowledge of the aircraft. Further 427 is no more used number of US airways.

On May 9 2004, American Eagle Flight 5401 was on its route to San Juan from Mayagüez, an Avions de Transport Regional 72-212, ATR-72 type with registration number N438AT. While landing at San Juan the plane pranced once, rebounded very hardly two times and crashed at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, Puerto Rico. It came to an end at grassy area which was 217 feet left of runway 8 and 4,317 feet away from runway entrance. 22 passengers and 4 crew members were on board out of which the captain was most critically wounded and 16 passengers, the first officer, 2 flight attendants suffered minor injuries. When crash happened a team of city rescuers were practicing on the beach which was one block away from the airport. They ran to help people and certainly saved their lives. The NTSB said that the happened because of pilot's error as he failed to recover from a bounced landing.

Prinair Flight 191 was a flight from San Juan to Ponce in Puerto Rico. On June 24 1972, the flight was on its way and at 11:15pm it crashed when it was attempting for landing. As it was landing at night it was only accountable for landing authorization. After touching down the runway the crew made a conclusion to go around. Then the pilot over rated and caused to a stand at lower level therefore the craft crashed killing 3 passengers and 2 crew members. Fifteen people survived in the crash out of which seven were seriously injured. NTSB in its earlier investigation revealed that there was unauthorized vehicle present on the runway which led to go around and crash happened. In the future investigation it was revealed that crash happened because of pilot's error.

On August 2 1984, Delta Air Lines Flight 191 was on its way in the afternoon it got crashed when it was approaching Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. At DFW airport weather was very bad but they decided to proceed further. It also hit 2 water tanks and exploded in to flames. 135 people died in the incident including one on the ground and 29 survived. NTSB said that it was pilot's error who continued flying in the direction of thunderstorm. Don Estridge, father of IBM PC died as onboard this flight with his wife, two IBM summer interns and six other IBM employees.

On August 31, 1988, Delta Air Lines Flight 1141 got crashed after its takeoff from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. The reasons for the crash as determined were a mechanical failure, the crew futile to note that the wing's flaps and slats were in proper position before its take off and plane's takeoff caution horn which would alert crew if there is any problem in takeoff and that was also not working. The plane did not gain enough speed to climb up as flaps and slats were pulling back as they were not properly placed and got crashed at the end of the runway. Out of four crew members two members died and out of 101 passengers 12 were killed, 26 were seriously injured.

On its final approach it had a collision with trees and it busted into flames killing all 75 people on board. NTSB said that the crash was unsurvivable as no one could be identified.

On April 27 1976, American Airlines Flight 625, which was a Boeing 727, got crashed as it ran over the leaving end at Harry S Truman airport while landing there. It got trapped in the landing coordination antenna, it gone down with a chain like fence and traveled till it was stopped by a building destroying the aircraft completely. The runway at St. Thomas was a shorter one and the Boeing 727 was the heaviest of the aircraft which could not go around easily. Out of 88 people on board 37 were killed and 51 survived from the crash.
