The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has told that the total number of global accidents in the air transport industry in 2008 was 502.
This was enclosed in a statement signed by Giovanni Bisignani, director-general of IATA, in the Abuja, Nigeria according the News Agency of Nigeria.
IATA positions the global accident rate at 0.81 or one accident for every 1.2 million flights which is slightly deterioration from the 2007 year performance when the accident rate was 0.75 or one accident for every 1.3 million flights.
